Meet the Team

Leanne Duffy - I.T. Tutor

Leanne was born and educated in Jersey.  On leaving school, she gained a BSc in Business Information Systems Management at Bournemouth University before moving to London to work in IT with a company that specialises in conference organisation and management. Returning to Jersey in 2005, Leanne worked in telecommunications administration before deciding to utilise her IT skills and interest in working with the public by joining AP Courses.
’I’m based in Jersey but regularly work in our Guernsey office too,’ she said.  ’I teach people to use all kinds of software, but mainly Microsoft desktop programs. I find it very rewarding, particularly when I can help people not just in general terms, but with specific issues that they have to deal with as part of their job. Sometimes I can find a solution to what has been a real problem for them. We work with people at all skill levels and anyone from junior staff to senior management level, as well as private individuals, who are welcome too. There are training rooms in our office suites in both islands, although we can also work at the client’s premises if they prefer. It is refreshing to work in different environments, across a wide range of industries.

Patricia Best - Soft Skills Tutor

Before we can understand what Patricia Best’s role as a ’soft skills tutor’ involves, we have to know what soft skills are. It is one of those terms that describe things that have always existed but have only recently been identified and given a name.
Soft skills are what complement the ’hard skills’, i.e. technique. They help to get things done when an individual already has the technical skills and they include areas such as communication (verbal and written), team building, leadership and management.
Sometimes it is the individual who asks to go on the course, because he or she is aware that there is room for personal improvement in certain areas. In other cases it’s the company that identifies a need for training that will help the individual, department or firm as a whole.
’I’m doing this because I enjoy working with people,’ said Patricia, who has many years’ experience in teaching, management and sales. ’It is also very interesting to meet delegates from so many different companies and industries, and of all age groups and positions within their organisations. No two training days are the same, and that is what makes this kind of tutoring so varied and satisfying.’
